Polyoxidonium Tablets 12 mg – Pack of 10
Composition
Each tablet contains:
- Azoximer bromide – 12 mg (active ingredient)
- Excipients: Lactose monohydrate, Povidone K30, Magnesium stearate, stabilizers
Pharmacological Group
Polyoxidonium belongs to the class of immunomodulatory drugs that enhance both innate and adaptive immune responses. It is used as an adjunct in the treatment and prevention of infectious and inflammatory conditions.
Mechanism of Action
Azoximer bromide acts as an immunostimulant and detoxifying agent. It enhances phagocytic activity, increases the production of interleukin-1 and interferon, and promotes antibody formation. It also improves resistance to infections and reduces the immunosuppressive effects of chemotherapy, radiation, and prolonged antibiotic use.
Indications
Polyoxidonium is indicated in adults as part of complex therapy for:
- Chronic and recurrent infections (e.g., respiratory tract, ENT diseases, urogenital infections)
- Secondary immunodeficiency states
- Oncological diseases (to mitigate immunosuppression during chemotherapy or radiotherapy)
- Post-surgical recovery to prevent complications
- Burns, injuries, and recovery from severe illness
Dosage and Administration
Standard adult dosage: 1 tablet (12 mg) once daily sublingually or bucally. Duration: 5 to 30 days depending on the condition and treatment plan. The tablet should be kept in the mouth until fully dissolved; do not swallow whole or chew.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Azoximer bromide or excipients
- Pregnancy and lactation (due to limited clinical data)
- Children under 18 years of age (for this dosage form)
Precautions
- Use with caution in patients with lactose intolerance
- Alcohol consumption is not recommended during the course of treatment
- Care should be taken when performing activities requiring attention and coordination
Side Effects
Polyoxidonium is generally well tolerated. Rare side effects include:
- Skin rash, urticaria, itching
- Fever or malaise (rare)
If side effects occur, discontinue the drug and consult your physician.
Overdose
No cases of overdose have been reported. In case of accidental overdose, symptomatic treatment and observation are advised.
Drug Interactions
Polyoxidonium does not negatively interact with most pharmaceutical agents. It is often used in combination therapy, including with antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, and cytostatics. Always inform your doctor of any other medications being taken.
