Description
Enerion (Sulbutiamine) Tablets 200 mg, Pack of 20
Composition
Each tablet contains 200 mg of sulbutiamine, a synthetic derivative of thiamine (vitamin B1). Inactive ingredients include lactose monohydrate, povidone, magnesium stearate, and sodium starch glycolate.
Pharmacological Group
Enerion belongs to the pharmacological group of neurotropic and nootropic agents. It is used primarily for its central nervous system (CNS) stimulating and anti-asthenic properties.
Pharmacological Properties
Sulbutiamine exhibits enhanced bioavailability compared to thiamine and effectively crosses the blood-brain barrier. It promotes cholinergic and glutamatergic activity, improving mental performance, alertness, and mood. Studies suggest its efficacy in reducing fatigue and enhancing cognitive function in patients with asthenic or neuropsychiatric conditions.
Indications
- Symptomatic treatment of functional asthenia (physical and/or mental fatigue)
- Supportive therapy in chronic fatigue and mild cognitive impairment
- Adjunct treatment in thiamine deficiency states: beriberi, Wernicke’s encephalopathy, Korsakoff’s syndrome
- Possible off-label use in depressive symptoms and memory impairment
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to sulbutiamine or any excipients
- Children and adolescents under 18 years of age
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding (unless prescribed)
- Severe renal impairment
Precautions
- Use with caution in patients with bipolar disorder or psychosis due to CNS stimulation
- Monitor in elderly patients or those with a history of substance abuse
- May exacerbate anxiety or insomnia in sensitive individuals
Drug Interactions
- May interact with MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, or antipsychotic agents
- Possible synergistic effect with stimulants or cholinergic nootropics
- Consult your healthcare provider before combining with other cognitive enhancers or psychiatric medications
Dosage and Administration
Recommended adult dosage: 400–600 mg per day (2–3 tablets), taken orally with water. Preferably administered in the morning and early afternoon to reduce risk of insomnia. Duration of treatment is typically 2–4 weeks, but may be adjusted depending on therapeutic response.
Adverse Reactions
- Common: headache, irritability, nausea, insomnia, agitation
- Less common: rash, allergic reactions, palpitations
- Rare: severe hypersensitivity reactions (facial swelling, dyspnea), especially in predisposed individuals
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include anxiety, gastrointestinal upset, tremor, and insomnia. No specific antidote exists. Management is symptomatic and supportive. Seek immediate medical assistance if overdose is suspected.
