Description
Epaviten (Epargriseovit) Vials 1 ml, #5 Solution
Composition
Each 1 ml vial contains 0.5 mg of silver protein as the active substance. Excipients include sterile water for injection, sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment, and trace stabilizers. The solution is colorless and sterile.
Description
Epaviten is a silver protein-based antimicrobial solution intended for external use. It exhibits strong bactericidal properties and is commonly used in hospital and surgical settings for treating infected wounds, ulcers, and burns.
Pharmacological Action
Silver protein exerts its antimicrobial effect by binding to bacterial cell membranes, disrupting enzyme function and cell wall integrity. This leads to rapid bacterial inactivation. It is effective against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens, including resistant strains.
Therapeutic Indications
- Topical treatment of burns, surgical wounds, trophic ulcers, and pressure sores
- Antiseptic management of infected skin lesions
- Prophylactic use in at-risk dermal injuries to prevent secondary infections
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to silver compounds or other formulation ingredients
- Severe hepatic or renal impairment
- Use over large surface areas or prolonged use due to risk of silver accumulation (argyria)
Precautions
- Monitor renal and hepatic function with prolonged therapy
- Avoid long-term use to prevent systemic silver accumulation
- Discontinue if signs of local irritation or allergic reaction occur
Adverse Effects
- Local: redness, itching, mild burning sensation
- Systemic (rare): argyria — irreversible blue-gray pigmentation of skin and mucosa
Drug Interactions
- Avoid use with sulfur-containing topical agents due to risk of silver sulfide formation
- Concurrent use with other antiseptics may reduce efficacy
Epaviten Dosage and Administration
- Apply 1–2 times daily to the cleaned affected area using a sterile swab or directly instilled under medical supervision
- Do not exceed two weeks of continuous treatment without reevaluation
Overdose
Symptoms may include local irritation, nausea, vomiting, or silver accumulation (argyria). Treatment is symptomatic. Discontinue immediately and consult a physician.
Storage
Store at 15–25°C, protected from light. Do not freeze. Keep vials in the original packaging until use. Keep out of reach of children.
Pregnancy and Lactation
There is insufficient data on the safety of silver protein use in pregnancy and lactation. Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a healthcare provider.
