Description

Pharmacological Action

Sodium Picosulfate is a stimulant laxative that acts on the colon. After activation by bacterial enzymes in the large intestine, it stimulates peristalsis and promotes the accumulation of water and electrolytes in the intestinal lumen. This softens the stool and facilitates its passage. The onset of action typically occurs 6 to 12 hours after administration.

Dosage and Administration

• Adults and children over 10 years: 10–20 drops (5–10 mg) once daily, preferably in the evening
• Children 4–10 years: 5–10 drops (2.5–5 mg) once daily, under medical supervision

Drops can be taken undiluted or mixed with water. The dosage should be adjusted based on individual response. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to sodium picosulfate or any excipients
• Severe dehydration
• Intestinal obstruction or ileus
• Acute surgical abdomen, including appendicitis
