Use in Sports
- Immune system disorders are associated with the occurrence of chronic septic conditions and inflammatory-infectious diseases, leading to various declines in sports performance.
- In the practice of sports training, immunomodulators are prescribed for the treatment and prevention of secondary immunodeficiencies, overwork, correction of desynchronosis, and rehabilitation after injuries and surgical interventions.
- Using specific immunomodulators (such as thymus medications, interleukins, interferons, immunoglobulins) requires mandatory immunological analysis and medical supervision.
- Mild immunomodulators based on plant medications do not require a prior assessment of immune status; they are intended for preventing viral diseases during epidemically dangerous periods and immune disorders during training in mid-altitude conditions.
- Research and testing of new immunocorrecting medications are necessary to expand the possibilities of immunotropic correction for athletes.
Novirin Description
Novirin is an antiviral medication with an active ingredient that provides direct antiviral and immunity-modulating effects. It binds to the ribosomes of virus-affected cells, slowing down viral i-RNA production and inhibiting replication of DNA and RNA viruses. It also inhibits interferon formation.
The immunomodulatory effect results from its impact on T-lymphocytes, increased phagocytic activity of macrophages, and normalization of T-helper and suppressor cell populations. Novirin reduces viral load, normalizes immune cell production, activates interferon production, enhances resistance to infections, and limits infection spread.
Indications and Benefits
- Novirin is prescribed to individuals with low or normal immune status during viral infections:
- Adenoviral infections, parainfluenza, influenza, and other acute respiratory viral infections.
- Bronchitis of viral origin, mumps, measles, herpes simplex, subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, genital herpes, and more.
- The benefits include immunity enhancement, interferon production, antiviral action, and increased activity.
Novirin Contraindications
Novirin should not be taken by individuals intolerant to pranobex or other components of the medication. It’s contraindicated for patients with kidney/liver disorders, urolithiasis, gout, hyperuricemia, and children under one year old. Caution is advised for elderly patients due to potential hyperuricemia.
Method of Use and Dosage
Novirin is taken orally at regular intervals, preferably after meals. Tablets can be crushed, chewed, or dissolved in a small amount of water before taking.
The treatment duration depends on disease severity and relapse frequency. The average treatment duration is 5-14 days. The course can be repeated if necessary after a 7-10 day break. Novirin intake can last 1-6 months intermittently. The maximum adult dose is 4 g (8 tablets) per day.
Recommended dosages for various conditions:
-
- Influenza, parainfluenza, and other acute respiratory viral infections: Adult patients – 2 tablets x 3-4 times a day, children – 50 mg/kg/day in 3-4 doses (course of 5-7 days).
- Epidparotitis: 70 mg/kg/day in 3-4 doses (7-10 days).
