Description
Pascorbin (7.5 grams of vitamin C), ascorbic acid 50 ml.
Pascorbin is a vitamin C supplement containing 7.5 grams of ascorbic acid in a 50 ml solution.
Vitamin C deficiency can be treated or prevented through the use of medication when nutrition alone is insufficient. Decreased blood plasma levels of ascorbic acid can occur due to malnutrition, infectious diseases, severe injuries, tumor cachexia, and methemoglobinemia in children. This is indicated by a reduction in the concentration of ascorbic acid in the blood plasma.
Pascorbin should be used strictly according to the instructions provided by the attending physician.
If no specific dosage is prescribed, the recommended dose is 5 ml per day, administered slowly via intravenous dropper, and diluted with up to 50 ml of injection solution.
Recommended Dosages:
- For adults on long-term parenteral nutrition, administer 100-500 mg of ascorbic acid per day intravenously (equivalent to 0.7-3.3 ml).
- For children, the recommended dose is 5-7 mg of ascorbic acid per kilogram of body weight per day, administered intravenously.
Pascorbin, containing 500 to 1000 milligrams of ascorbic acid (corresponding to 3.3-6.6 ml), should be administered intravenously to children with methemoglobinemia once a day. However, the daily dose should not exceed 100 milligrams per kilogram of body weight.
In rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions like breathing difficulties and allergic skin reactions may occur with Pascorbin usage. Circulatory disorders may also manifest, leading to symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and blurred vision. Chills and fever have been observed in some instances. If any of these side effects are experienced, discontinue the injection or infusion immediately and consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Special Instructions:
Pascorbin (ascorbic acid) should only be used after consulting a doctor, especially if the patient has certain conditions like oxalate kidney stones, thalassemia, hemochromatosis, or sideroblastic anemia. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the daily dose should not exceed 100-500 mg.
Large doses of vitamin C may cause rapid increases in urinary ascorbic acid levels, potentially affecting chemical and clinical indicators such as glucose, uric acid, creatinine, and inorganic phosphates.
Furthermore, interactions between Pascorbin and other medications could alter their effects and result in side effects. Therefore, it’s crucial to consult a doctor before taking Pascorbin.
