Description
Prefolic tablets 15 mg, #30
Gastro-resistant tablet of Prefolic contains: 19.18 mg of N5-methyltetrahydrofolate calcium pentahydrate, equivalent to 15 mg of acid.
Inactive ingredients: cornstarch, lactose, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol 6000, polymethacrylates, polysorbate 80, simethicone, sodium hydroxide, talc.
Pharmacological Properties
Prefolic is a complex containing folic and citric acids, glutathione, mannitol, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, and sodium hydroxide. It supplies the body with folic acid and serves as a catalyst for its restorative processes. The medication increases energy and enhances sports performance.
It participates as a coenzyme in various enzymatic reactions, plays a vital role in amino acid exchange, purine and pyrimidine base biosynthesis as components of nucleic acids. It highlights the importance of vitamin B9 for normal tissue growth and development. Vitamin B9 is also crucial for hematopoiesis and embryogenesis processes, providing a positive impact on digestive tract function.
A deficiency of vitamin B9 inhibits hematopoiesis and causes a specific type of anemia, affecting the digestive system. Vitamin B9 is also involved in muscle protein synthesis. In bodybuilding, the demand for folic acid is higher than in a regular lifestyle.
Indications and Usage
Prefolic is prescribed for macrocytic hyperchromic anemia due to folic acid deficiency. It’s also used as part of a complex treatment against anemia resulting from prolonged medication use.
The active ingredient in Prefolic, calcium mepholinate, is a salt of N5-methyltetrahydrofolate, particularly valuable for treating conditions associated with folate deficiency. It addresses megaloblastic anemias, neurological disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and birth defects.
Indicated for anemia caused by medications and ionizing radiation, sprue, chronic gastroenteritis, and intestinal tuberculosis.
Method of Use
Dosage and usage instructions are provided by the doctor after tests. Standard recommendations:
- Number of doses per day: 3
- Dosage per dose: 1 tablet
- Course duration: 20-30 days
- Gastro-resistant coated tablets are to be swallowed in the morning.
Contraindications
Prefolic may cause adverse reactions in patients with individual intolerance to its components.
Side Effects
Possible allergic symptoms, fever, tachycardia, low blood pressure, anaphylactic shock.
Interaction with Other Medications
In cases of pernicious anemia, Prefolic should be used with cyanocobalamin to stimulate hematopoiesis.
Storage Conditions
Store below 25°C, away from children.
Additional Information
In cases of Addison-Birner’s disease (pernicious anemia), it’s recommended to use vitamin B12 with Prefolic. Take precautions to avoid prolonged exposure to medication with oxygen (air) during slow intravenous administration. Epileptic patients should be cautious, as anticonvulsant medications might affect megablast synthesis and increase seizure risk. Avoid driving or operating machinery requiring concentration. Always consult a doctor before taking this medication.
