Description

Vitamin D3 (Dibase) 100.000 U.I./ml, 6 ampoules x 1ml.

Vitamin D3, also known as Dibase, is a fat-soluble vitamin that is essential for maintaining the health of your bones and teeth, supporting your immune system, brain, and nervous system. It also plays a significant role in regulating insulin levels and supporting cardiovascular health as well as lung function.

Composition

Each ampoule of Vitamin D3 (Dibase) 100.000 U.I./ml, 6 ampoules x 1ml contains the active ingredient cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3). This is equivalent to 100,000 U.I. (international units) of Vitamin D3. The other ingredients include medium chain triglycerides, anhydrous ethanol, and anhydrous citric acid.

Indications

Vitamin D3 (Dibase) 100.000 U.I./ml is indicated for the prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiencies. This may be due to inadequate exposure to sunlight, inadequate diet, certain medical conditions such as malabsorption syndromes or certain medications. It can also be used in the management of hypocalcaemia (low calcium levels in the blood) and certain bone conditions such as rickets or osteomalacia.

Contraindications

This medication should not be used by individuals with hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to cholecalciferol or any other ingredients in this medication. It is also contraindicated in patients with hypercalcaemia (high calcium levels in the blood), hypercalciuria (high levels of calcium in the urine), or diseases or conditions leading to hypercalcaemia and/or hypercalciuria such as primary hyperparathyroidism, sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, or malignancies.

Warnings and Precautions

Prior to starting therapy with Vitamin D3 (Dibase) 100.000 U.I./ml, patients should have their serum calcium levels checked. If hypercalcaemia is detected, the medication should not be used until the hypercalcaemia is corrected. During treatment, calcium levels should be monitored regularly, especially in elderly patients and those with renal impairment.

Patients with renal impairment or kidney disease should use this medication with caution, as the active ingredient, cholecalciferol, is primarily excreted through the kidneys.

Vitamin D3 should be used with caution in patients with sarcoidosis due to the risk of increased metabolism of vitamin D to its active form. These patients should be monitored for hypercalcaemia.

Interactions

Vitamin D3 (Dibase) 100.000 U.I./ml can interact with certain medications. These include thiazide diuretics, which can increase the risk of hypercalcaemia when taken together. Other medications such as barbiturates, phenytoin, or other anticonvulsants can decrease the effectiveness of Vitamin D3 by accelerating its metabolism.

Side Effects

Like all medications, Vitamin D3 (Dibase) 100.000 U.I./ml can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The most common side effects include hypercalcaemia and hypercalciuria. Symptoms of hypercalcaemia may include fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain or discomfort, muscle weakness, polyuria (excessive urination), polydipsia (excessive thirst), bone pain, and kidney stones.

Overdose

In case of overdose, symptoms may include those of hypercalcaemia. If you suspect an overdose, contact a healthcare professional immediately. Treatment of overdose includes discontinuation of Vitamin D3, a diet low in calcium, and administration of fluids and electrolytes.

Dosage and Administration

The dosage of Vitamin D3 (Dibase) 100.000 U.I./ml varies depending on the individual’s age, weight, and clinical condition. It is generally administered as a single dose every month or as directed by the healthcare provider. The medication is for oral administration. The solution should be taken with a meal to increase its absorption.

Storage

Vitamin D3 (Dibase) 100.000 U.I./ml should be stored at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and light. It should not be stored in the bathroom or near a sink. The medication should be kept out of reach of children and pets.
