Composition
- Each 10 ml vial contains:
- Active ingredient: Zinc (exact compound such as zinc sulfate or zinc gluconate — refer to the product insert)
- Other ingredients: Water for injection, sodium chloride (to adjust isotonicity if needed)
Indications
ZincPower Injection is used for the treatment and prevention of zinc deficiency and associated medical conditions:
- Zinc deficiency due to malabsorption, malnutrition, or chronic diseases
- Immune support during infection or post-operative recovery
- Wound healing, tissue regeneration, recovery after burns or trauma
- Adjunct in dermatological conditions linked to zinc deficiency (e.g. acne, eczema)
- Support for hair and nail growth in patients with clinically confirmed deficiency
Dosage and Administration
- Route: Intravenous (IV) use only
- Dosage:
- Adults: 2.5–10 mg elemental zinc daily depending on deficiency level
- Severe cases or ICU patients: Higher doses under medical supervision
- Dilution: Must be diluted with 0.9% sodium chloride or 5% dextrose
- Infusion Rate: Slowly over 30–60 minutes to avoid irritation
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to zinc or formulation components
- Severe renal dysfunction (unless closely monitored)
- Hemochromatosis or other trace metal storage disorders
Precautions and Warnings
- Monitor serum zinc and copper levels regularly during prolonged therapy
- Risk of toxicity in patients with impaired renal excretion
- Do not mix with incompatible solutions or drugs in the same IV line
- Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only if prescribed and monitored
Adverse Effects
- Local: Injection site pain, erythema, or swelling
- Systemic: Nausea, dizziness, metallic taste
- Metabolic: Hyperzincemia, copper depletion
- Allergic: Urticaria, rash, rarely anaphylaxis
Drug Interactions
- Reduced efficacy of tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones (antibiotics) — separate administration times
- May impair absorption of copper, iron, and other divalent cations
- Inform your healthcare provider about all concurrent medications
Pregnancy and Lactation
Zinc is essential during pregnancy, but high-dose intravenous zinc should only be used when clearly indicated and under medical supervision to avoid fetal or maternal mineral imbalance.
Overdose
- Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, diarrhea, metallic taste
- Complications: Hypocupremia, electrolyte imbalance
- Treatment: Stop administration, supportive care, monitor zinc and copper serum levels
Storage
- Store at 15–25°C (59–77°F)
- Protect from direct light; do not freeze
- Keep out of reach of children
- Use immediately after opening. Discard unused remainder
